Do you want to play a game?

This is cool... ever wanted to emulate one of those really old TTY interfaces? Prefer reading text in it's green-on-black, distorted goodness? GLTerminal lets you do exactly that.

Getting the most from your mobile

So, a quick tip for anyone who's got a contract mobile phone... If you've been on the same tarrif for any length of time or haven't upgraded recently you can exploit take advantage of the fact that the network you are on will happily offer you a better deal rather than loose you. The magic phrase you need is:

I'd like my PAC code please as I've seen a better deal with network X and I'd like to switch to them.

Faster than a speeding bullet you'll find yourself speaking to someone from "retentions" who'll gladly upgrade your minutes, texts and handset. And reduce the contract cost. If you don't want a new handset, either take a good one and sell it to someone who does or perhaps they'll offer you some free airtime instead... who knows :)

The Gallery returns

Well Gallery2 actually. After a server upgrade and some tinkering I have managed to not only get the gallery of all my photos back online but got the drupal integration working properly (well at least until i can move the gallery menu into the drupal one...) Now all I need to do is add some recent pictures... At least you now get a random image in the righthand column anyway... nice!

Oh and then sort out the rest of the site! :)

Batman Begins...

Saw Batman Begins last night, on my tod (which I don't think I've ever done before - how bizarre is that!?). Superb film, really, quite verily good. Honest to the story of Batman, great cast, plausible (in a comic book sense) script. Mr Nolan I thank you for helping rid the memory of Arnie and George Clooney from the annals of Batman's cinematic history.

So I was walking back from the skinema and remembered that I had an unwatched copy of Memento at home. So it was time to see what the film that started Christopher Nolan's career was like. *Way* cool. But then everyone else but me has seen Memento and knows that anyway...

Food and computers

Just realised that although all sorts has happened since I last posted, I haven't actually posted about any of it.

* Wednesday last week - had some nice quiet drinks in the North Star (and Phil pulled!)
* Thursday - Ali took me to Gordon Ramseys at Claridges for the best meal I've ever eaten. Then up to vertigo42 at the top of Tower42 (otherwise known as the NatWest tower). Will post up some pictures here soon, good views despite the weather...
* Friday - Wandered round Bristol, very nice, good vibe, nice pizza, sat in a huge queue of traffic though :(
* Saturday - Wells, interesting catherdral, nice market. Then in the evening off for a nice meal with Alex, Jamie, Olly, Charlotte, Henry and Gemma.

Drupal rocks! *ahem*

Well I've spent most of the afternoon hacking about with Drupal for work (not this site) and it never fails to impress me a) how well it is written, or b) how quick it can be to implement something (caveat: once you know how it works!).

For anyone that cares I've been modding the ecommerce module to allow VAT to be applied to products and calculated properly. You can even set a VAT rate in the store admin. Jubbly.

20:24pm... home time.

Todo

Right then, we're getting somewhere. First things first some kind of list of things to sort out.

* A theme using some nice tidy CSS and a smattering of graphics to make it all look nice.
* Restoring the old Gallery install I had up with all my photos from things
* Installing a few useful modules and the like
* Setting up some "content" and things I've been meaning to post somewhere
* Actually posting some blog-worthy stuff
* Working out if anyone is reading this and if so what the hell they are doing here :)

The dawn of a new... something..

So it was a while ago that I realised how utterly rubbish it was to be a so called web designer but have a personal website so devoid of recent or even *useful* information that I decided to take it down. Not that anyone noticed or probably gave two hoots (they just ended up on my worky website instead).

So anyway what you see here (as of May 16th or thereabouts at any rate) is a vanilla install of some software called Drupal with which I am building this site into *something useful* or at least updated (I hope).

Given the amount of time I spend building websites for other people I may as well try and spend a little on my own and just for fun, document doing it where I can. Although I should say that Drupal makes the whole building thing a lot less painless.
